Here’s Which Liquors Have The Highest Antioxidant Properties

When people talk of the health benefits of having a drink a day (like a glass of wine per day lowering your risk of cardiovascular disease), they are typically referring to the antioxidant properties of the ingredients. Wine scores high in this department, but hard alcohol shouldn’t be excluded: tequila and brandy are some of the ‘healthiest’ liquors on this scale.

It’s important to note that any health benefits mentioned in this article are assumed under moderate drinking (1 drink per day is considered moderate) only and that excessive drinking of any alcoholic beverage is in no way considered healthy. If you are looking to boost your antioxidant intake, you should not do it by drinking alcohol. Fruits like pomegranate and blueberries are some of the best-known sources of antioxidants in the world.

Brandy

Brandy is a hard alcohol that contains a good amount of vitamin c and antioxidants. A shot of brandy can provide a significant amount of antioxidants and can promote anti-ageing effects.

Gin

The Juniper Berries that Gin comes from is a great source of antioxidants. They’ve also been linked to promoting good skin and improving your sleep (whereas many other alcohols disrupt your quality of sleep).

Whisky

Whiskey, made from fermented grain, actually scores high on the antioxidant scale. One shot of whiskey has just as many antioxidants as a glass of wine.
