Sens 1st Round Pick To Join The Ottawa 67’s

It’s been a busy Tuesday for the Ottawa Senators, making a trio of announcements this morning, the big one being that they’ve signed 10th overall pick Tyler Boucher to a 3-year entry-level contract.

Boucher was the Sens 1st round pick from the 2021 NHL draft and played with Boston University before leaving. The 18-year-old forward from Haddonfield, NJ, had just 2 goals and 3 points in 17 games with BU and will now join the Ottawa 67’s.

The son of ex-NHL goalie Brian Boucher was a 7th round draft pick of the Ottawa 67’s in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection Draft but initially committed to Boston University.

Tyler tested positive for COVID-19 on December the 26th, and due to U.S. protocols can’t come to Canada until January 6th. Boucher will be placed on the Belleville Senators roster for now, but the plans for him to join the Ottawa 67’s. The 67’s are 12-17-1-1 through 31 games this season, sitting 4th in the East Divison and 7th in their conference.

The Ottawa Senators also recalled Matt Murray from Belleville earlier this morning. Murray was sent to the B-Sens back on November 27th after going 0-5 through his first 6 starts with the Senators. Goaltender Filip Gustavsson and Anton Forsberg are in the NHL’s Covid protocol.

Murray spoke to the media today following his first practice in 10 days.

Sens head coach DJ Smith was back on the ice for practice today.

General Manager Pierre Dorion spoke to the media earlier today, touching on several topics from signing Tyler Boucher, Matt Murray being recalled and their taxi squad. You can find that availability here
