YETI Rambler Products: Overpriced Or Worth The Money?

A new line of Yeti products has made waves this summer, building off their reputation of durability and performance. But how much is too much for coolers and drink-ware?

Yeti’s colourful new RAMBLER line of vacuum insulated, stainless steel tumblers, bottles and colsters have brought the back-woods camping trend to the forefront as a ‘new’ way to enjoy drinks in the summer heat.

Their sterling reputation is well deserved. YETI products stand up to the test of extreme heat. In a test done by CNET, YETI beat out 10 other coolers by keeping ice significantly colder after a 24 hour period. By offering that same type of performance in products that make sense to the general population, Yeti has achieved mainstream status with their heavy duty camping equipment. And, they’ve been able to charge a heavy duty price for it, too.

Take, for instance, their 36 oz Stainless Steel Water Bottle, which sells on amazon and at retailers like Sportchek for $65 Cad. Similar products retail anywhere from $12- $40 Cad. And while the product is made well, the main reason for their markup is not cost; its brand reputation. Yeti charges 25% more for their products because people will still buy them at this price, some don’t seem to mind the $50 price tag for a heavy duty travel mug.

Are you in or out on the Yeti trend?
