Here’s what sleep experts (and celebrities) have to say about the perfect night’s sleep.

Still spending your nights tossing and turning? Flipping over the pillow to get the cold side? Experts recommend that adults should be sleeping between 7-9 hours a night. Here’s what else they say about the perfect sleep setup.

Are you cool enough for sleep?

Our body temperatures naturally start to lower as we settle down for sleep (less movement = lower body temperature), so it’s no surprise that a cooler environment will help you sleep better. According to sleep experts, the ideal room temperature to sleep in is 15 °C – 20 °C. This temperature will help keep your body temp low throughout the night, and you’ll wake up feeling more restful.

A case for silk

Silk pillowcases are wildly popular today, mostly because they cause the least amount of friction between your hair, face and the sheet (cotton is the worst). This friction is proven to promote wrinkles and damage hair follicles.

Sleep is in the air

Dehumidifiers work to remove humidity from the air, which can help the most restless of sleepers have an undisturbed night. Mariah Carey swears by this, she’s reported to have over 20 dehumidifiers in her bedroom.

Aromatherapy

Room and pillow sprays are a staple in 5-star hotels, and help to promote relaxation. The Ritz Carleton has their own line of Room Sprays to promote relaxation.

Get a sleep analysis – no expert needed

Sleep experts leave no pillow unturned when it comes to finding out what works best, and now you can buy pillows and mattresses to do a sleep analysis for you to help you improve the quality of your sleep. These mattresses monitor your sleep patterns through the night and give you suggestions on what you can do to improve the quality of your sleep, you can access all the information about your sleep on an app connected to your iPhone.
