Here’s How WD-40 Made It on the Shelves

WD-40 made its debut on store shelves in San Diego in 1953. It is now said to be found in 4 out of 5 American households. It has become an essential tool in each home whether it is to tune up an old bike, loosen up some drawers or to remove paint from the floors.

WD stands for what it does (Water Displacement) and 40 comes from how many tries it took the Rocket Chemical Company to perfect their rust-prevention solvent.

Since the pandemic hit back in 2020, the WD-40 skyrocketed with an increase of 26% of sales and shares increased over 10% in just 3 months. This increase was high enough to push its market value to over $4 billion USD.
