Upgrade Your Night Out: Explore Ottawa’s Lounge Scene

Whether it’s date night or happy hour, be sure to save this list for your next outing.

Zoe’s Lounge

Located in one of Ottawa’s most recognizable buildings, Zoe’s is one of two restaurant offerings at the Fairmont Château Laurier. Originally a concert hall, this space was redesigned as a bar in the 1980’s and to this day is a popular spot for specialty cocktails and locally-inspired eats. We’d recommend the Apricot Brandy Sour to any newcomers, but with a well-stocked bar you’re sure to find a variety of options to suit any palette.

Apothecary Lounge

This Byward Market self-proclaimed ‘absinthe cellar’ has an industrial and vintage feel, leaning into the vibe of a prohibition-era speakeasy. The wide range of cocktails, wines, and beers is complemented by a selection of small plates and tapas, as well as mains and a small assortment of desserts. We’d recommend the ‘Dealer’s Choice’, where the bartender will craft you something based on your tastes and preferences.

Joy on Sussex

Located on Ottawa’s busy Sussex drive, this lounge offers a unique menu of spirits, cocktails, and eats in an elevated and romantic atmosphere just steps from some of the city’s most iconic landmarks. The space places an emphasis on art and decor, with ornate chandeliers and gilded framed paintings dotted around the room.

The Moonroom

This little Italy staple is tucked away in an unassuming building on Preston street. Their back patio is an intimate spot, offering creative and trendy cocktails which change frequently––meaning no two visits are the same. This is a casual, laid-back bar that’s perfect for grabbing drinks with a few friends, or unwinding after a long day. Their spiked hot cider is a must-try this Fall.
