Uppliva Spa: Ottawa’s First Urban Nordic-Inspired Spa Experience

Ottawa’s first urban Nordic-inspired spa brings authentic sauna culture to the heart of the city, making restorative wellness accessible without leaving town. For many Ottawans, a Nordic spa visit often means leaving the city behind. Located in the vibrant Hintonburg neighbourhood, Uppliva Sauna & Spa offers a different approach. Inspired by Nordic wellness practices, the urban retreat invites guests to slow down and reconnect through the rhythm of hot, cold, and rest.

Inspired by Sweden

Uppliva was founded after owner Maureen Dickson lived in Sweden and experienced the role sauna culture plays in everyday life. Drawn to its benefits for both personal well-being and social connection, she returned to Ottawa envisioning a Nordic sauna experience in the city. Today, guests can enjoy a thermal circuit featuring a cedar sauna, eucalyptus steam room, cold plunge pool, rain showers, relaxation lounge, and garden patios.

Rooted in centuries-old tradition, contrast therapy is increasingly valued for supporting recovery, stress resilience, mental clarity, and overall well-being.

An Urban Retreat Designed for Modern Life

Uppliva was designed with modern urban living in mind. Whether it’s an after-work reset or a weekend wellness ritual, guests can access a calming escape just minutes from downtown, no day trip needed. With capacity limited to only 16 guests at a time, the spa offers an intimate atmosphere that feels worlds away from the pace of the city.

New this summer are Social Sauna Fridays, women-only sauna hours, monthly DJ Sauna Nights, and memberships designed to make contrast therapy part of a regular wellness routine. In a city that rarely slows down, Uppliva offers a space to pause, reset, and reconnect.
