Ottawa Will Purchase 4 New Electric Buses – To The Tune Of 9.3 Million

By Lindsay Childerhose

The City of Ottawa announced today that it is purchasing four battery-electric buses from New Flyer Industries – a company based in Winnipeg and one of four Canadian makers of zero-emission buses.

In total, the City of Ottawa is investing $9.3 million, which includes the purchase of four long-range 40-foot battery-electric buses, along with the necessary supporting infrastructure.

“Switching from gas and diesel vehicles to battery-electric is one of the most impactful actions we can take to meet Ottawa’s goal of reducing greenhouse-gas emissions by 100 percent by 2050.” Says Mayor Jim Watson. “Everyone has a responsibility to manage energy consumption and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and the City is no exception. When governments work together, we get closer to achieving our goals under the City’s Climate Change Master Plan.”

Through the Investing in Canada Plan, the Government of Canada is allocating more than $180 billion over 12 years in public transit projects, green infrastructure, social infrastructure, trade and transportation routes, and Canada’s rural and northern communities.
