Toronto voted the Friendliest City in the World, Montreal in the Top 20… but no Ottawa.

Canada has a reputation for being friendly and a welcome place for tourists and visitors. A new study by online language education source Preply has established a global ‘Community Spirit Index’, which ranked 53 cities around the world according to 6 metrics of ‘friendliness’.

The criteria included friendliness of staff (public-facing employees who interact with tourists and visitors), visitor return rate, community respective, acceptance of diversity, happiness, and ease of language.

Toronto earned its highest scores in the areas of acceptance and language, and ranked highly in happiness, too.

Montreal was almost identical in scoring across all criteria, but differed in two areas. Whereas Montreal scored higher than TO in Community Respect, it scored much lower in the friendliness of frontline workers.

Despite these rankings, Ottawa was nowhere to be found in the Top 20.
