Ottawa’s fight against food insecurity is hitting a major milestone this spring, as Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa partners with the Ottawa Food Bank to host the 10th anniversary Food Sort Challenge on May 8, 2026.
For the first time, the high-energy fundraising event will take place inside Hard Rock Live and the LIVE Pre-Function Hall, bringing a new level of scale and excitement to one of the city’s most impactful community initiatives. Presented by Mondeau Bathroom and Kitchen, a division of Boone, the challenge will see corporate teams from across Ottawa race against the clock to sort 1,000 pounds of food—all in support of local families facing food insecurity.
Now in its tenth year, the Food Sort Challenge has become a powerful symbol of collaboration across Ottawa’s business community. Each dollar raised supports more than 90 food programs within the Ottawa Food Bank network, helping deliver nutritious food to those who need it most. This year, organizers have set an ambitious fundraising goal of $165,000.
“Community is at the heart of everything we do at Hard Rock,” said Christine Crump, President of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa. “Hosting the Food Sort Challenge for the first time, especially as it marks ten years of impact, is an opportunity for us to support an organization that plays such a critical role in our city.”
Beyond the spirited competition, where teams compete for speed, accuracy, and a permanent place on the official Food Sort Challenge trophy, the event underscores a deeper purpose: ensuring dignity and access to food for all.
“For ten years, the Food Sort Challenge has rallied teams around a simple but powerful goal,” said Natalie Spooner, Interim CEO of the Ottawa Food Bank. “Hard Rock’s leadership as host this year strengthens the impact of this event and helps us continue meeting the growing need for emergency food support.”
Hard Rock’s involvement builds on an already strong commitment to food security in the region. In 2025, the organization contributed $100,000 from its grand opening initiatives, followed by additional funding through the Hard Rock Heals Foundation and employee-led food drives.
While team registration is now closed, the public can still take part by donating or attending the Food Sort Challenge After Party. The event takes place Friday, May 8 at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa, bringing together corporate teams, community supporters, and the Ottawa Food Bank for a full day of impact. The evening after-party runs from 7:00 to 10:00 pm at Hard Rock Live, featuring performances by The Wind Up and special guests The Goods, along with trivia, prizes, and a high-energy atmosphere. Tickets are $30, with the 19+ event offering a lively way for the public to join in and support the cause.
