Ottawa Redblacks Bring Back Key Defensive Leader In Avery Williams

The Ottawa Redblacks have brought back another core player, American linebacker Avery Williams, who has re-signed with the team for 1 year. Williams has been dominant for the Redblacks since joining the team in 2018, and is one of the key foundation pieces on defense.

Williams has 83 tackles, 1 interception, 1 sack, and a fumble recovery this season. He currently sits 3rd in the CFL with his 83 tackles in 12 games. Back in 2019, Williams was voted their Most Outstanding Player after recording 70 tackles, 1 sack, and 3 fumble recoveries in just 11 games.

Avery Williams is the 7th Redblacks player to re-sign with the club since November 2nd, joining return specialist DeVonte Dedmon, punter Richie Leone, kicker Lewis Ward, running back Brendan Gillanders, safety Justin Howell, and defensive lineman Nigel Romick.

The Redblacks play their final game of the season Friday night against the Montreal Alouettes.
