Making a Murderer

Of course this made the list. This Netflix Documentary series has been a fan favourite since its release in 2015.  It raises a lot of questions about the American justice system and its process. By combing an outrageous mix of small town politics and class struggle, this show is both inspiring and distressing, making it a true crime classic.

Evil Genius: The True Story of America’s Most Diabolical Bank Heist

Warning: this one is not for the faint of heart. Netflix’s latest true-crime documentary, Evil Genius, promises to reveal the truth of a bank heist that took place in 2003 in Erie, PA. The story begins with a pizza man robbing a bank with a bomb tied around his neck. It is full of baffling twists, and it’s only 4 episodes, so you could binge watch it all in one go if you are dying to know what happens (and trust us, you will be).

The Sinner

This series is darker than our other suggestions. It takes place in a small town, beginning with a horrific murder that strikes a chord with a lot of the locals. While most people in the town consider the murder a closed case, one investigator insists there is more to the story which leads to the disturbing reveal of many chilling secrets. This series will definitely have you putting off your work so you can keep watching.
