Virtual Canada Day In The Capital: Here’s What To Know

With Coronavirus continuing to force Canadians to social distance, this year’s Canada Day is officially going virtual. There will be no gatherings; instead, the Minister of Canadian Heritage Steven Guilbeault unveiled an exciting variety of celebrations that Canadians across the country can access on June 30th to July 1st to express our national pride.

A Canada Day celebration kit is currently available online with interactive, creative, and educational activities that you and the whole family can enjoy. In this kit, you’ll find the arts and culture pack where you’ll be able to create your own stop animation film, the culinary arts pack full of recipes for you to try out during your Canada Day celebrations and even the history, symbols and traditions pack for you to share your experiences with your fellow Canadians.

Virtual performances from a host of Canadian artist will take place throughout the day. The daytime show (Canada Day Across the Country) will begin at 1 pm and run for an hour. Hosted by Serena Ryder and Pierre-Yves Lord, Canadians will be able to take a virtual tour of the upcoming celebrations.

The evening show (Canada Day Together), running from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., will feature a wide array of Canadian artists performing for Canada’s birthday. Hosted by Serena Ryder and Pierre-Yves Lord, artists including Alanis Morissette, Avril Lavigne, Sarah McLachlan, and many more will be collaborating to ensure Canadians get the most of out the special day.

To end the day, you will also be able to watch a special fireworks presentation, presented by Tim Hortons.

Canadians will be able to watch both the daytime and evening show on CBC and Radio-Canada as well as on Canadian Heritage’s digital platforms. For more information, you can visit the official Canada Day website.
